Meet Our Team
Irma Peters
Introducing Irma
Irma is an Integrative Psychotherapist/Counsellor and practitioner within the field of Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy and Learning. She has over 40 years of horse experience working, training, playing and living with a variety of horses. Irma is the director of EquiStep and co-founder of 2Connections, which deliver safe, effective and professional practices that bring horses and humans together in a collaborative learning process designed to enhance leadership and communication skills whilst developing greater self-awareness.
Irma provides a solid foundation for the integration of equine needs and human relational interaction. Her passion derives from the powerful sentient being that taught her what authenticity looks and feels like and the insight those horses gave her through various challenges in her own life. Her own rehabilitation after a near death experience and PTSD helps Irma to understand first-hand how horses can assist in creating powerful insights.
Irma has experience of working with individuals from a variety of back grounds and issues, having worked at the University of Suffolk as a Student Counsellor. Irma focuses on the experiential process of learning rather than the solely verbal transmission of information. With her background in business she delivers innovative leadership, team building and life skills development programs for a variety of client groups and individuals.
It is our mission in 2Connections to provide you with the keys necessary to find long term success utilising the valuable skills learned through your interaction with horses.
NANCY WINTON
Introducing Nancy
Nancy's horse experiences started as a young girl, when her father would take her and her sister to watch horses at a local riding school and mounted police unit out in their paddocks. As a teenager, she attend summer camp where she first learned to ride, then returned to riding as an adult. Volunteering with a therapeutic riding centre for over 5 years in Canada, Nancy received her therapeutic riding instructor certification through PATH International in 2003.
It was through her time spent with the therapeutic riding program, as well as her own riding, that Nancy experienced first hand the special bond riders developed with their horses. Nancy started searching for more information about equine assisted activities and therapies, which lead to learning more about the horse-human bond and equine assisted learning. Nancy is a trained facilitator in two models of equine facilitated/assisted learning, the Human-Equine Alliance for Learning (HEAL) Equine Facilitated Learning Model™, completing her training in Norway, and Cartier Farms Equine Assisted Learning Building Blocks™ model, completing her training at Dreamwinds Equine Assisted Leaning Centre in Canada. She also has an equine science certificate from the University of Guelph.
In addition to her love of horses, Nancy is a passionate and dedicated educator, who has had the opportunity to facilitate learning for diverse groups of individuals across various environments in Canada, South Korea, and the United Kingdom. She has a masters degree in Childhood Education, post-graduate certificates in early childhood special education and autism and behavioural science, as well as having her Forest School Leader qualification and qualified teacher status (QTS).
